Draw a crowd with food photos!

Want a simple business driver for your restaurant? Display all those beautiful sandwiches, sides and drinks by posting some simple photography on Yelp, Facebook, your own website and other online locations.

Customers are drawn to visuals when searching for a new place to eat. Yes, the old cliché “we eat with our eyes” has some truth to it!

But sometimes the budget doesn’t allow for a professional photographer. Fortunately, you can get decent results for free thanks to that tiny amazing camera on your smartphone! Consider these hints:

  • Forget the flash. Use natural lighting by placing your setup near a window where there’s indirect lighting.  Soft, light shadows behind the plate  provide a professional look.  Soften very dark shadows by moving the plate further away from the light source .
  • Keep it close. Let the photo show all the goodies layered in your sandwich or meal.  A good angle is roughly 45 degrees above much like you would see while seated in front of the dish.  But try other angles, too, from slightly below, directly over top, or even straight-on to create a dramatic effect (see examples below).
  • Make it real. Don’t try and get fancy and pretty up your dish and surroundings. Photograph exactly how you serve that quesadilla so customers know exactly what to expect.
